Last night we saw JAGGED West take home the award for LA Raw Performing Artist of the Year at the Key Club! Sarah, Kaitlin, Venus, and Anika wowed the crowd, most of whom were other RAW artists. RAW is an organization dedicated to spotlighting new and emerging artists in all fields (see our previous post), and they do a fantastic job. The evening was a celebration of creativity and as indie filmmakers we felt right at home. It was inspiring to meet so many people like us who are just out there pursuing their passion every single day. After weeks spent in editing seclusion, it was a very
Jagged West is competing this Sunday in the semi-finals for the 2012 RAWards! Per the RAW website: "RAW is an independent arts organization that spotlights independent creatives in visual art, film, fashion, music, hair & makeup artistry, photography, models and performing art. RAW educates, connects and exposes emerging artists in 54 artistic communities across the United States and Australia
We recently completed the opening title sequence shoot for the film thanks to the generous support of our Kickstarter backers. It was a tremendous opportunity to showcase the cinematic quality of pole dance, and we truly believe it will help audiences see its beauty and grace. A special thanks to our crew and cast of dancers for making the day a real success!
Last night Jagged West competed in their first ever team competition...and they WON! Hosted by the renowned Jenyne Butterfly, the International Pole Masters Cup Championship featured expert pole artists and athletes from around the world competing in four different categories: female, male, doubles, and teams. Jagged West took home the cup for their amazing performance (which you can see below). We're also thrilled that Mina Mortezaie & Nadia Sharif (frequent Jagged collaborators) won the Doubles category with their awe-inspiring performance. Congratulations to all the competitors for
Jagged and pole dance are taking radio by storm! Check out Jessica's fantastic interview with Moses Carroll on Pole Dance Talk Show, a weekly radio show on eRadio Broadcast Network dedicated to pole. Per their Facebook page, "Pole Dance Talk Show is a global media platform, forum and social network, which gives Pole Dancers, Pole Dance Schools, Pole Dance Associations, Pole Dance Magazines and other related individuals and organisations a powerful voice to promote their views, opinions, events, products and services." Another great way the pole community is spreading the word!
There are a lot of reasons why we decided to do a Kickstarter campaign, one of which is to raise funds for an opening title sequence shoot. Now you may be thinking “Haven’t you’ve filmed Jagged for two years? Isn’t that enough?” It isn’t and here’s why. One of our biggest hopes is that by watching this film audiences will appreciate contemporary pole dance for the art that it is. We’re the first to admit that this is a big challenge. For better or for worse, pole dance carries with it a lot of baggage. Our film will help lighten the load, but only if we can quickly convince pe
We've launched our Kickstarter campaign and already had an amazing first few days. The out pouring of support has been amazing. Clearly, people are recognizing that Jagged's journey isn't just about the struggle for the acceptance of their art form, but also about human beings and the insatiable desire to perform and feel alive. We're 17% there but we still have a long way to go! We're raising money so that we can hire a composer to write an original score, so we can color and give the film an amazing sound mix, and so we can film a beautiful title sequence for the movie (more on that la
As they say, "writing is re-writing." Well in documentaries, "editing is re-editing." We've outlined about 3/4 of a new pass on the film. The last 1/4 is still up in the air since we're travelling to Nashville to film it in March. But we have some ideas. We were very inspired when we heard the editors of Pearl Jam Twenty speak at a local LAFCPUG meeting. After watching the documentary the other night, it give us some fresher ideas on what the structure of the film could look like. Anyway, wanted to share. And for those of you who are curious - yes, this is a normal part of the fil
As the year comes to an end, we're kicking into overdrive as we prep for more filming. Last night, our friend and talented cinematographer, Brandon Alperin, stopped by with his RED Epic camera to help us film some tests. The film's writer/producer, Katie, was happy to step in and be our pole filming test subject. Thanks Katie! We shot the RED Epic footage at 240fps for a super slow motion effect and it was pretty exciting once we loaded into the edit bay and toyed with it a bit. Can't wait to go for the real thing. We'll keep you posted as we gear up for an exciting shoot in the new y
We're really excited to share our first interview about the documentary film! It was great to get the opportunity to talk a bit about the film and where we see it going. Thank you to Jennifer over at PoleSkivvies for reaching out and taking the time to chat with us.
